    —Sue Morreale, Partners Composition

  • "Carly has done wonderful work with me since day 1. As a production editor, I'm always looking for copyeditors who care about the work they do, who take the time to get to know the guides, who are really curious and engaged with the work of copyediting. I know every project I send to her will be thoroughly cared for, and all of my authors tell me they always appreciate her skills and guidance. She always asks questions when she's unsure but her intuition is often right! She's communicative and knowledgeable, and I would not hesitate to recommend her to other presses."

—Jenn Bennett-Genthner, manuscript editorial manager, SUNY Press

  • "My thanks to Carly for doing such a thorough job. Her edits were great, and her queries helped me strengthen a number of points"

Books I’ve Copyedited

No matter what stage your book is in, I will help get you ready to publish:

  • Ensure consistency and purpose in word choice, tone, and sentence flow across the entire manuscript

  • Fix errors or awkwardness in grammar, syntax, punctuation, and usage with creativity and tact

  • Suggest rephrasing that matches and hones your unique voice

  • Help structure and reorganize paragraphs to make your message powerful and clear

  • Catch tricky typos and errors before going to print

Above all, I am a cheerleader for your work, and I promise to provide supportive feedback, ask clarifying questions, and explain every mark.

What I Offer

  • Let’s remove the distractions so your words can shine. Light copyediting will address errors in your text—grammar, usage, punctuation, and syntax—with meticulous, sentence-level detail. I will create or adhere to a style guide and make suggestions to draw out—but never override—your creative voice. I use MS Word Track Changes or Google Docs Suggestions so every mark can be reviewed.

  • Line editing is a copyedit plus a focus on language style and organization, such as removing repetition and wordiness, revising passive voice, ensuring parallel structure and varied sentence rhythm

  • This is where I catch those final typos, tricky subject/verb disagreements, spacing snafus, punctuation mishaps, capitalization inconsistencies, or missed words. This is the step between copyediting and publication, for when your piece is almost ready but needs an extra (and meticulous!) set of eyes.

  • You’ve written a killer first draft and now need feedback on the big picture. Let’s take your fiction, memoir, and nonfiction manuscript to the next level with feedback on chronology, dialogue, character development, and more. We can also address your writing goals, such as removing repetition, revising passive voice, and improving syntax based on your audience and context.
